Ensure seamless case management and the successful resolution of cases as your legal expertise as a senior attorney is sought by a dynamic legal firm in Cape Town to join its team. You will handle a caseload of complex medical malpractice and personal injury litigation matters while drafting and filing legal documents, including complaints, motions and appeals, ensuring accuracy and adherence to court rules and procedures. The ideal candidate must be an admitted attorney able to practice law in the High Court of South Africa with at least seven years’ work experience as a practicing attorney, with a primary focus on medical malpractice and personal injury litigation. You must also have proven success in handling high-value and complex cases, including trials and appeals.

Duties:

• Handle a caseload of complex medical malpractice and personal injury litigation matters in the High Court of Cape Town.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to develop effective case strategies.
• Draft and file legal documents, including complaints, motions and appeals, ensuring accuracy and adherence to court rules and procedures.
• Represent clients in court hearings, depositions, mediations and negotiations, showcasing strong advocacy skills and legal acumen.
• Provide expert legal advice and guidance to clients, keeping them informed about the progress of their cases and potential outcomes.
• Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals and support staff to ensure seamless case management and successful resolution of cases.
• Prepare witnesses for testimony and gather evidence to build compelling arguments in court.
• Stay up-to-date with relevant legal developments, statutes, and case law in the field of medical malpractice and personal injury litigation.
• Mentor and guide junior attorneys and support staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
• Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional activities, maintaining client confidentiality and promoting the firm's reputation for integrity.

Requirements:

• Admitted to practice law in the High Court of South Africa, with specific experience in the High Court of Cape Town.
• Minimum of seven  years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a primary focus on medical malpractice and personal injury litigation.
• Proven success in handling high-value and complex cases, including trials and appeals.
• Extensive knowledge of medical malpractice laws, personal injury statutes, and civil procedure in South Africa.
• Strong legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to apply legal principles effectively in practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal arguments persuasively.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in managing a legal team.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate and thorough legal work.
• A client-focused approach, with the ability to empathise with clients and advocate for their best interests.
